Why should I go to traffic school?

When a person successfully completes traffic school, the traffic conviction is masked/hidden and will not appear on their public driving record.   Also, the point for the traffic violation is NOT assessed to the persons driving record.  This in-turn prevents the violation from being reported to the insurance company, preventing an increase in insurance rates.  When a person has one or more points on their driving record their insurance rates will increase.  Too many points results in the loss of the driver’s license.  In addition, you just may learn something that will make you a better and safer driver, possibility saving your life.

Can I take your traffic violator course if I live in a different county from the one that I received the ticket in?

Yes! Drivers Choice Traffic School is licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles for ALL CALIFORNIA COURTS. However, you must pay your ticket first and the court must give you permission to take traffic school. The court will also give you a traffic school completion date.

How long does it take to complete the course?

Once you complete the registration, you can complete the course as fast as you can read the material, take the quizzes and pass the final exam.  It is up to you.  The DMV requires the course to contain a minimum of 42,500 words and to be equal to the classroom course.   The class room course must be 340 minutes (6 hours). This does not include the exam time, which is one hour (or less). All traffic schools must follow these rules and the DMV makes no exceptions.  The online course offers the convenience of doing the course in segments in any location, rather than at one time, in a classroom. You can log in and log out as often as necessary.  But, you must complete the course before your traffic school due date.

Why do I have to pay again? I paid for traffic school at the court.

Unfortunately, all courts charge an administrative fee to cover the additional data entry and the processing of your traffic school completion record. All traffic violator schools are independently owned businesses, licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Each school determines their own fee. Pay attention to the advertised price of other schools and make sure there are no hidden charges.

My traffic school date is today, can I still take this course?

Yes! However, you must complete the course and final exam before midnight in order for it to be reported to the DMV with your due date. The final exam pass notice is time stamped and it must be stamped before midnight. If you cannot complete the course before you due date or the due date has passed, contact the court directly and attempt to get an extension. Most courts will give a 30 day extension. The sooner you complete the course the sooner we can update your DMV record.

How do I pay for this course?

You must pay with a credit card. All credit card transactions are through the secure PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account, you may use the guest account button.

What are the security question used for?

The DMV requires the security questions and the unique password to insure the person taking the course is the same person that is registered. You should note the answers to the security question because they will be asked when you log in and throughout the course.

What happens if I fail the final exam?

The final exams are 25 multiple choice questions. You must obtain a final score of 70%. If you fail the final exam, you should review the course material. When you believe you are ready, you will be given a second final exam. In California, the DMV regulations only allows a person to take a final exam twice.  Read the material in each chapter and do not skip through the course.  Pay attention to the test questions and you should have not have any problem passing the final Exam.  If a person fails both final exams, which rarely occurs, Drivers Choice Traffic School will delete the current record and the person will be able to re-register at no charge.  DMV requires the person to re-register with Drivers Choice Traffic School or another traffic school and take the course again

How does the completion certificate get to the court?

Once you have completed the course and passed the final exam, Drivers Choice Traffic School transmits the information to the DMV electronically. DMV regulations require the record to be updated within three (3) business days. Generally, we update the same day or next business day. Each court accesses this information daily to insure you have completed traffic violator school. No paper work, no notary, we do it all at no extra charge.

What happens if I have to log off before finishing the course?

Not a problem! Just log off. When you are ready to start again, log on with your username, password and security question answer. Then go to the table of contents, locate the chapter where you left off, click on the chapter, scroll down and pick up where you left off.

How many chapters/sections and quizzes are there in the course?

The course is regulated by the DMV and is standard for all traffic schools. There are eleven (11) chapters with a quiz at the end of each chapter and there is one (1) final exam. The entire course including the final exam is online.  We believe our course is better than the other schools because it was written from a law enforcement perspective by a former law enforcement traffic collision investigator.

How much time do I have to complete Drivers Choice Traffic School internet/online course?

Normally the courts will give the student 60 or 90 days to complete traffic school. We allow you an additional 90 days, after your traffic school due date, to complete the course before the registration information is deleted.  If the court gives you an extension, you must notify us so we can change your traffic school due date.
